Opalescence Teeth Whitening St. CharlesImage

What is Teeth Whitening?

Opalescence Boost is a professional teeth-whitening gel applied directly in our office to quickly enhance your smile with ease and effectiveness. This method doesn’t require uncomfortable LED lights, as the gel is chemically activated. The whitening process begins immediately upon application, with noticeable results achieved in just two or three 20-minute sessions, typically within about an hour. Even with regular brushing, teeth naturally become stained and discolored over time—restore your smile with the help of our team at St. Charles Family Dentistry.

What to Expect From Opalescence Teeth Whitening

We suggest that you first visit your primary dentist for a routine checkup before scheduling a teeth whitening treatment with us. This visit will help ensure that your teeth and gums are in good health for a professional whitening procedure. Additionally, your dentist will remove plaque and surface stains, which will enhance the effectiveness of your whitening treatment.

After your checkup, you can book your whitening appointment at our office. When you arrive, you’ll provide some medical history, including any current health conditions or dental work like implants. Then, we can proceed with your whitening treatment.

Opalescence also offers a take-home whitening kit, available exclusively through licensed dental professionals. This kit includes a specially formulated whitening gel containing fluoride and potassium nitrate. Along with the gel, you'll receive custom-made trays from your dentist. Opalescence PF at-home treatments are ideal for those who prefer a personalized whitening regimen they can complete at home.

The Teeth Whitening Process

1

Shade Assessment and Protection Steps

First, we'll assess the current shade of your teeth and use a lip and cheek retractor to keep your lips and tongue away from the whitening gel. Next, we'll apply a protective barrier around your gumline to prevent any irritation from the gel.

2

Applying and Setting the Whitening Gel

After securing protection for your gums, lips, and tongue, we’ll apply the whitening gel to your teeth using a soft brush tip. The gel will stay on your teeth for 20 minutes before being carefully removed.

3

Treatment Session Overview

After removing the gel, we’ll assess the color change in your teeth to decide if additional applications are needed. During a single treatment session, we can apply the whitening gel up to three times.

4

Final Steps of the Whitening Treatment

After the final application and removal of the whitening gel, your orthodontist will carefully take off the protective barrier and retractor, unveiling your newly brightened smile!
